At every walk of life, we are using things or equipment that are made of metals. These are so common that we don’t even think how these are produced or from where the raw material for these is obtained. Of course, it is not limited to metals and a large number of mines in our country are related to non-metals such as for coal etc. A visit to a mine helps us realize how difficult and risky is the process to extract these raw materials.
Products made up of raw material extracted from mines are common-place. From jewellary to electronics items, from household goods to transport, everything that we use will have something extracted from a mine. Even a large part of electricity is produced from coal. With advancement in technology used in mines it has become a relatively safer place.
A great deal of help in ensuring safety is provided by the communication network. Mines are investing in modern communication systems and we are at forefront of this technology upgrade. We are providing special network that ensure communication across the closed mines using mine safe products. A great deal of made-in-India products are also used for these communication networks.
Many of the products that we deal with are licensed products that can be sold and installed only after getting a license from the regulatory authorities (WPC/DOT.) Additionally, mines are hazardous areas that require a product to meet certain compliances like certification for Intrinsically Safety (PESO, IECEx, ATEX, UL etc.) Also, within a large geographical area of a mine (including surface areas outside a mine), there are areas that are designated safe or hazardous and a solution is to be designed using all these details.
The designed solution should meet safety and regulatory requirements of the industry and certifications for equipment and customer should be secured before starting a project.
Once a project is awarded, the first job is to take regulatory approvals. The delivery will commence only after the receipt of all certificates and licenses. A network can be very simple and comprises of few Portables to be used with probably a Fixed Station that will require minimum of installation.
However, most of the projects for mines are complex and may require infrastructure installation at every nook-and-corner of the mine. For e.g., a cable will be laid across the whole mine and connected to multiple equipment at every interval. It will then be connected to main infra at control room. Normally a project may involve multiple years of maintenance and hence a regular presence at the site is maintained.
